Fulfilling Your Role as a Mandated Reporter
ÃÛÌÒAPP recognizes that a student or employee may choose to report
incidents of sexual misconduct or harassment to any employee of the University. For
example, a student may choose to confide in a dean, resident assistant, faculty member,
program director, or coach. Similarly, an employee may choose to confide in a supervisor
or colleague.
All employees of ÃÛÌÒAPP (including student employees), with the exception
of those who are designated as confidential resources, are mandated reporters and
must promptly share with the Title IX office all known details of a report made to
them in the course of their employment. To fulfill your responsibility to notify the
University, we ask that you submit a within 24 hours of receiving a disclosure, or as soon thereafter as possible.
The University will need to determine what happened -- and know the names of the individuals
involved in the incident, any witnesses, and any other relevant facts, including the
date, time and specific location of the incident. Upon receiving a report, the Title
IX office will contact the student or employee to provide information on their rights
and resources.
As indicated below, each of the following has the authority to receive complaints
of sexual misconduct and to ensure timely follow-up (including investigation) occurs.
Before filing a report, you are strongly encouraged to contact any of the individuals
listed below; they can answer your questions and further discuss how the University's
initial assessment and other Title IX processes work.

Your Role as a Mandated Reporter
Mandated reporters are encouraged to provide notice to all colleagues, students and
visitors of their reporting obligations as appropriate, such as including this obligation
in the signature line of their email, documenting reporting obligations in course
syllabi, or providing a general reminder when conversations may include or prompt
such disclosure. For additional assistance, please contact the Title IX coordinator.
Make sure to tell the student or employee about resources and support they can access
confidentially. Know that if someone tells you that they have experienced sexual violence,
intimate-partner violence, interpersonal violence or sexual harassment, they likely
see you as a person they can trust. ÃÛÌÒAPP has a number of resources to support you and
the student/employee in ways that can positively impact their recovery.
You can assist the reporter by informing them that our process includes:
- Confidential and private reporting options.
- Prohibition against retaliation.
- Allowance for supportive measures.
- Formal and informal resolution options.
