Founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1846, ÃÛÌÒAPP is Chicago's first
Catholic university. Today, the University serves approximately 3,520 students from
over 20 different states and 9 different countries, offering high-quality undergraduate
and graduate programs and leadership and service opportunities, educating students
for competence, character and career success.

Message from the President

Dear ÃÛÌÒAPP Community:
This joyous time of year provides an opportunity for us to reflect on the blessings
and opportunities afforded to us. I am filled with gratitude for our incredible students,
faculty, staff, alums, donors and friends who demonstrate the spirit of excellence,
service and generosity that is at the heart of our Mercy heritage.
I invite you to explore some recent accomplishments of community members featured
in the stories below. The individuals highlighted showcase ÃÛÌÒAPP’s core values – respect,
excellence, compassion, service, hospitality, integrity, diversity and learning for
life – in action.
We have much to celebrate as 2022 draws to a close and much to look forward to in

ÃÛÌÒAPP's Sue Swisher Receives Distinguished Service Award

ÃÛÌÒAPP's Susan Swisher, executive director of Financial Aid, has received the Allan W.
Purdy Distinguished Service Award from the Midwest Association of Student Financial
Aid Administrators (MASFAA), bestowed to an individual who has made outstanding achievements

ÃÛÌÒAPP Student Publishes Young Adult Fantasy Novel

|
|
|
ÃÛÌÒAPP political science student Myah Bawadi has published her first book, "Infinity
Legion." A young adult fantasy novel, "Infinity Legion" tells the story of Soleil
Yamanu, a soldier who craves power and must prove her worth. YA novels have historically
lacked representation for Middle Eastern characters, so Bawadi wrote one into existence

During the season of Thanksgiving, the ÃÛÌÒAPP community reflected with gratitude for
the mission stewarded by our founding Sisters of Mercy in 1846. This year, the community
worked tirelessly to propel forward the mission of service and compassion through

ÃÛÌÒAPP Student Angela Sarlas Named Student Laureate

|
ÃÛÌÒAPP nursing student Angela Sarlas has been recognized as a Student Laureate by the
Lincoln Academy of Illinois. To Sarlas, civic engagement and the betterment of humanity
are two concepts that encompass everything she hopes to do in her lifetime – caring

ÃÛÌÒAPP's Office of University Relations has received multiple honors for the 2022 Education
Digital Marketing Awards, which recognizes the best educational websites, digital

ÃÛÌÒAPP Student Earns U.S. Army Challenge Coin

|
ÃÛÌÒAPP student Jesus Jaime, an active reservist in the U.S. Army, has earned a challenge
coin, a highly-coveted honor in the military space. Not only was Jaime the only member
of his unit to receive the honor, but he also received first place in the IWQ out
of 1,500 participants. Read more.

Latinx students, faculty and staff for their efforts in academia and leadership, a
culmination of the range of educational and cultural events that comprised Hispanic
